Tyrol State People & Culture
Innsbruck, Tyrol State, Austria One of the best things I did while in Innsbruck alone for a week was to go hiking with the Alpine School of Innsbruck. This is the best thing ever!!! The School offers free hiking every morning and even an evening lantern hike. They even provide you with hiking shoes and a backpack, a guide and transport to the hike trail. They meet at the Congress Center at 9 am (check the city info office for more details on where the hikes are) and the hikes last 4-6 hours. The hike I did was long but so amazing that I will never forget my trip there. The evening lantern tour is fun too as you stop for drinks and music. I would never have gone hiking alone on my trip and the Alpine School offered me the ability to do one of my favorite things with a trained guide. Plus, I got to meet some very interesting people. Good tip? (+1) Kitzbuhel, Tyrol State, Austria Go during the winter and take part in the festivities of the Hahnenkamm Race. You won't regret visiting the Londoner either. The Tyrolian locals are VERY proud people. Good tip? (0) Achenkirch, Tyrol State, Austria Achenkirch, next to the Achensee , an Idillic spot on earth , great food, kind people, awesome nature and teriffic set of mountains... gruss-gott from everyone you meet ... paradise on earth, an absolute hit! Good tip? (0) Ischgl, Tyrol State, Austria For the best après-ski : Trofana alm! Lots and lots of people, real austrian music-dj is crazy!-, and a lot of boose, Good tip? (0) Innsbruck, Tyrol State, Austria Great People. Better attitude than Germans, even though they were joined once upon a time as an empire. Good tip? (0) Innsbruck, Tyrol State, Austria Innsbruck is kind of a neat place we didn't see much of it because we got there kind of later in the afternoon but if you like to experience culture go see a Tyrolian folk dance show it is pretty entertaining especially when they do the Jealousy dance and play the alpenhorns......just makes you think Ricolaaaaaaaa! Good tip? (0) Radfeld, Tyrol State, Austria Radfeld is located directly at the Inn river and a perfect base for skaters and bikers. The brave can enjoy skydiving at Tirol's only jumping centre - put on a parachute and jump from a place! (ssscariiiing....) Youths can find ideal and cheap accommodation all through the year. Just a few miles away lies Rattenberg. With some 400 inhabitants Rattenberg is the smallest town of Austria. The medieval pedestrian area is dominated by show glass businesses. The Augustine Museum features important exhibitions and is one of the leading museums of Tirol. The annual castle festival (sooo funny) and the authentic Rattenberg advent make the small town the cultural centre of the region. Good tip? Good tip? (+1) Gerlos, Tyrol State, Austria When visiting Gerlos in winter, don't be surprised to find a 'Dutch' village: not only the apres-ski music, but also staff and ski-teachers... most are Dutch or speak Dutch. It is fun for a couple of days.. Ski area is nice, quality of the lifts and slopes are good. Good tip? (0) Kitzbuhel, Tyrol State, Austria If your planning a trip to Austria this is the place to stay (summer or winter!). It is a beautiful Medieval town in the heart of the Tyrol region. In the Summer, it's a prefect place for those who like hill-walking or mountain bicking (getting the Hahnenkamm ski lift to the top and walking down is a great day out and most of the hotels do packed lunchs so you can have a picnic).
In winter this same mountain is host to the Alpine Sking World cup and a number of other events.
I also recommend a day trip to Salzburg, there is loads to do there. If your anyway interested in music you have to visit Mozarts House is great value for money and very detailed, they even have his first violin.
The nightlife is excellent!!!!! I recommend "The Londoner", it is by far the craziest pub I've ever been to! The bar staff are great craic! Bottles, ice etc. just seem to be thrown at each other behind the bar. U can even get a huge boot (a glass one!) of beer! The only problem is, it gets packed (even though it is a big pub) and the drink is kinda expensive! (if you guve them you address when your leaving the pub will send you Christmas cards!) Good tip? (0) Ischgl, Tyrol State, Austria For the best après-ski : Trofana alm! Lots and lots of people, real austrian music-dj is crazy!-, and a lot of boose, Good tip? (0) Innsbruck, Tyrol State, Austria Prometheus (just a few meters right down the street from the famous "Goldenes Dachl"/golden roof) ...upstairs it's a cosy cafe/bar, where students chill and hang out (good music)... and downstairs it's this gloomy, tiny club with different themes (60ies, Sin Night, ...) and DJs each night, perfect to dance, drink and/or linger on the sofas... Good tip? (+1) Mayrhofen, Tyrol State, Austria Visit Sport Wegscheider for your ski and snowboarding rentals and any gear. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and speak English. They are located right across from the Hotel Strass and the base of the ski slope in the center of town. Good tip? (+1) Innsbruck, Tyrol State, Austria Capital of the Austrian region Tyrol. Worldknown for ski. Beautiful city center with very nice houses and one of THE tourist attractions along with the Alps Zoo, the "Goldene Dachl", a bronze roof covered in gold.
Served by Austrian Airlines, Sky Europe, Easyjet, Welcome Air, Lufthansa, tuifly and niki, as well as countless airlines for charterflights during winter- and summerseason (UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, Italy, Russia, Ukraine,...) Good tip? (0) Innsbruck, Tyrol State, Austria Innsbruck is a lovely little city in the far west of Austria. Ideal for ski holidays in the winter and hiking in the summer.
There is a few restaurants that can only be reached by hiking up a mountain for about an hour or so, a schnitzel has never tasted better after a hike like that!
When flying into Innsbruck, not how close you get to the mountainsides. Especially if you are connecting in Frankfurt or other places to the North. Your plain will have to make a pretty sharp curve right between the 2 mountain ranges to either side of the city! Good tip? (0) Innsbruck, Tyrol State, Austria Beautiful city in the mid Alps. Wonderful view and lof of sport options: skying, climbing, biking, hiking ... Good tip? (0) Ehrwald, Tyrol State, Austria ein Trip zur Zugspitze lohnt immer Good tip?
