Travel Tips from people who've been to Sheki Region
If you happen to find yourself in Zaqatala and most likely have nothing to do there, don't miss a walk to Car (pronounced something like Jshar). It takes about 1 or 1.5 hours to get there walking and the forests and stone wall are pretty nice (foliage is awesome there) Good tip? (+1) I want to recommend two very different hotels in Shaki: 1) Karavanserey, a beautiful but simple hotel in an old caravansery (an old kind of Motel in the arabian world). Its architecture is really breathtaking. The rooms are simple, but are clean with hot water and TV (only makes sense, if you understand azerbaijan or turkish). Unfortunately there was no heating (at least in my room) and it gets cold in the azerbaijan winter. My single room cost 25 US$. There's wifi internet at the reception and you find the hotel in the old town. 2) Hotel Seki Saray, a quite new modern western style hotel at the central square of Shaki. One really enjoys its comfort after a few days travelling through rural Azerbaijan, but of course it comes with a pricetag: 125 US$ for a twin room. But I definitely didn't want to miss it in Shaki. Good tip? (0) Overall a very nice place where you can breathe some fresh air and look at a beautiful landscape. It's nothing like the busy and bustling capital, and I recommend going there if you are tired of city life and are looking for some time to spend in simple peace. The people are nice, and a lot of the local food tastes delicious. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Sheki Region
