The food is great. Try lambchops! They breed sheep especially, and they have very tender meat with no "sheep odour".

Do not get too drunk when out at evening, and try not to take a cab alone. There have been many 'incidents' of western workers/tourists being mugged. Try to find a taxi driver which you can get along with then take their mobile number and try to only use them......even the locals do this.

Cool underground cave-like dwellings visible from the highway as you pass through the Lachin corridor are pretty impressive. At border control with Nagorno-Karabakh if you drive through (the customs station is at the bottom of a hill around a bend across a small river) quickly in an Armenian plated car, noone bothers to ask for your visa papers or anything - I had a visa waiting for me there, but my driver sped through and just ignored them with no consequence. The police chief in Stepanakert said I did not need it once I was there, so...

Only buy fresh beluga caviar from the fishermen - the stuff in the hotels - much like the black market currency exchange there - is not to be trusted - too many scams (overpriced and low quality). And do not get in discussions about Nagorno-Karabakh :))

I have no idea after seeing this place how the Karabakh army defeated the Azeris - I mean this is amazing, especially when you see it!
