Bahrain Travel Guide

Bahrain is a modern Gulf island nation with many ancient historical sites. Bahrain has over 100,000 burial mounds, of which the Royal Tombs interspersed within the village of A’ali are considered the best. These unmarked mounds are up to 150 feet in diameter, and rise up to 50 feet tall. The Qal’at al-Bahrain is an artificial mound and major archaeological site created by thousands of years of human occupation. Once the capital of the Dilmun civilization, it was later the site of a Portuguese fort which remains today. Another archaeological site are the Barbar Temples – a complex of three temples dating back to as early as 3000 BC. For perspective on Bahrain’s history, you can visit the National Museum in Manama. A future modern sight may be the Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Bridge (composed of a series of bridges) is currently being planned and will be the longest fixed link in the world at 28 miles in length if it is completed.
