rent a car and drive round Barbados, it is the most lush and beautiful country I have ever seen. The people are so friendly. And if you get a chance to get the bus into town, do it! we used to call it the reggae bus...you find out why!!!

Barbados Culture
Black Rock, West Coast, Barbados
black rock in barbados is a great place. the whole island is a great historic lesson, with former slave plantations in the interior of the island, old houses etc. there are weekend trips on a public bus that goes around the island on sunday afternoon. it takes about four hours to drive around the island, and black rock is one of the points the bus goes through. barbados can be a hot place, so carry a bottle of water, and if you can visit in the cooler months, november and december, i'm told! it was so hot for me, and i had a cheaper room etc! so if you are loaded with lots of cash, you should have a great time on the island. its quite pricy, but its not very prohibitive.!! overall! excellent place really. a lot of history, its worth the heat!! and the culture, and music obviously...raga, reagae, calypso, and cricket!! nightlife is busy. try the st.lawrence gap on fridays and saturdays!! there is plenty of salsa too! and the premier league is shown in plenty of sports bars there!!

Regardless of where you stay on the island, you have to go to Oistins on a friday night! Its in Christchurch and there's an annual fishing festival but every friday night, the whole town (and most tourists) head to the fish-fry for some tasty food cooked fresh in front of you (not just fish but sweet potatoes and macaroni pie)on some big barbeques and couldrons... and some tasty local rum too! Music is loud, the smells are mesmerising and everyone has a great time. DON'T MISS IT!!!

Another great thing to do while you're there is to hire a taxi (your hotel should be able to sort this out for you) for the day and drive around the island. Agree the price beforehand (we paid about £50) and if there are places you'd like to visit or stop off at let them know in advance too... then sit back and enjoy! We visited 4 or 5 different places... got out and walked around for a bit, while our taxi driver waited for us. It was a brilliant day and we got to see so much of the island. Just make sure everything is agreed beforehand and you book through your hotel so you're covered.

Try body-boarding too while you're on the Island. The surf is great and all the local kids do it too (make you look like a complete amateur though!). Its so much fun and burns off some of the calories gained from all that rum and coke and fried fish!

If you can, go on a snorkelling trip to see the turtles. Its quite cheap (about £25 each) for a full day (10 - 4ish) including lunch and drinks on board. Its really chilled out, music playing, drinks flowing, and some great scenery. You might even see dolphins! Most of the boats take you to Sandy Lane (all beaches are public in Barbados so you can even walk / sunbathe on the famous Sandy Lane beach!!) where you anchor for lunch. But not before stopping off at a turtle feeding site. You get to swim with these amazing creatures... they're huge!.. but don't touch them or harass them or you'll be sternly told off. They are protected and for good reason. It's well worth taking a day out to do this. You won't regret it.

I loved Barbados so much. The snorkeling was great!!! Oh and if ur going with kids there are loads of clubs they can go 2 while they're there. And when I was there I got my hair braded. Be careful about jellyfish though. There are tropical gardens and caves and u can buy coral jewelry real cheap on the beaches.

Fantastic scenery with the most beautiful beaches around the island. The local food such as flying fish, swordfish and steakfish is a most try! Going out is great go to Ship Inn, Mc Brides for some good fun.... If you want it quieter choose the west coast if you want more turists and going out and more restuarnts choose the south coast. Overall Barbados is a FANTASTIC place to go to!!!!!!!!! Enjoy it!
