01510A beautiful and quiet flemish city with the same general feel as Gent or Brugge, but much smaller and with a fraction of the tourists. Worth a stop and a stroll if you're in the vicinity.
Seven churches (not bad for such a small city).
Mechelen looked pleasant enough to even try living there (certainly a lot more pleasant than Brussels, which I couldn't quite learn to like). If you're visiting Belgium, you might consider staying here and traveling around, if you're not after nightlife.

0155Well if you need to pick a day/week to come to Mechelen then come somewhere in August. Then there is a free big festival called Moonrock (maanrrock in dutch). And every thursday also a small mini festival in the local park.
