Brussels, Bruxelles, Brussel is the most amazing city. treat it with respect, one comes across the nicest people here, with some of the most beautiful sights around. Brussels is the best.

Don't go too pricey too many sweet shop and the people are not nice.

Met some great people in the youth hostel there. Sampled the whacky Belgian beer...flavours include banana, apple, cherry and blackberry. Stick to the lagers though...trust me, your stomach doesn't want to throw it back up as easily.

Great multinational city - not as ugly as some people think - for me rather interesting.

Brussels is definitely a place to go at least once in your life, small but great, cosy, warm people who love having fun and partying, you'll find the best beer and chocolate.... not to forget: excelent and diverse wafels ... miam miam... and great pub and restaurant.

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the administrative centre of the European Union . This has earned the city the title of the Capital of Europe. Brussels has been given its character by the coexistence of French and Flemish culture, and it is nowadays home to nationalities around the world, adding a cosmopolitan flavour to its atmosphere. The vibrant atmosphere of Brussels is further enhanced by picturesque medieval streets, lively squares, beautiful boulevards, impressive monuments, spacious parks, cosy cafés, interesting restaurants and an active cultural life.

Language

Most locals speak English as a second language, but it is always a good show of character to learn some basic phrases in the native vernacular. A courteous "thank you" goes a long way.

Etiquette

I have found many natives to be equally friendly if you show the same compassion and respect for their culture. The common misconception about "Americans" is that people are arrogant. Help to discourage this misconception by showing respect for other cultures.

Dangers

However, as in any unfamiliar locations, be aware of your personal belongings. Crowded streets are safe bets for pick pockets. Always check for your belongings every few minutes to make sure your IDs (passports) and money are always secure.

Find out about customs and traditions, foreign culture, communication with people, improvement of a language, etc.

Brussels is a melting pot of lot's of different cultures and styles. Most of the times, tourists are encouraged to go see the "big" things while Brussels has more to offer than chocolate and waffles. The best way to discover Brussels is by taking the subway and discovering it at your own pace. Find out where your instincts and intuition take you and don't trust in those pesky travel guides! ;-)

don't go with the creepy tourist information guy to the music festival in ghent. (we didn't go- too suspect- don't want to end up 6 feet beneath his backyard.) but if he invites you also it confirms my suspicions. there is a good campsite there, in an unlikely place. they can book it for you at tourist information.

You have to attend at least one weekend music fest in Belgium! It is to die for! Just take lots of water and don't expect anything to be hygenic... No showers available if your camping out and the lavotories are outside. The music is fabulous though and the vibe is incredible.

 Petite boite de Jazz trop sympa. Nous  l'avons découverte en nous baladant. Nous cherchions un café calme et nous sommes retrouvé dans un cadre très sympa à écouter de la bonne musique et à boire un verre de vin accompagné de petite charcuterie. Un moment agréable à vivre si vous passez dans les environs.

Brussels for me is the excellent music venues: AB, Cirque Royale, Botanique, Vorst sometimes... and others, all very near to each other and easy to get to

AB - Ancienne Belgique Concerts (alternative music, mostly), Anspachlaan.

Stay in the center of the city to be close to the action. While you may find a 4 star hotel around the ring of the city, you can find a nice 3 star hotel within the city that will be better. Make sure you try all the different flavored beers and enjoy the nightlife. Eat fish in Brussels, save the mussels for Antwerp.

Brussels is a great city to walk around in. Try out one of the walking tours, and don't forget to check out a chocolate store. Delicious! I would also recommend a crepe filled with bananas, creme, and fudge. :)

the small lanes of restaurants are awesome, as are the chocolate shops. definitely worth a visit

Great country side. And chocolates are a definate plus.
