Travel Tips for Belgium Climate

Durbuy, Luxembourg Region, Belgium
When in Durbuy, the best way to sleep is out in a tent under the stars (just keep your fingers crossed that you don't experience the typical Belgian weather). For a daytime activity: A leisurely day of kayaking is a fantastic way to take in the incredible scenery in the Ardennes.

Oostende, West-Vlaanderen Region, Belgium
Ostend is one of the cities you must really visit if you visit the belgian coast. The restaurants are very cosy and there are always special fish menu's. The fish is nice and fresh so enjoy it. If the weather is bad, and that can happen in Belgium, you can always visit seaparks and art galleries.

Brussels, Brussels Region, Belgium
Brussels is very nice, but has no continuity in its architecture or nice places. They're like islands. Make sure to visit the historical center, with the most beautiful square on Earth.
The subway system is not really extended. However, the tramways and buses are extremely efficient, do not hesitate to use them, they're a great way to see the true people of Brussels.
As the capital of Belgium, the city brings together the different traditional cuisines. Belgian cuisine is of French quality, in German amounts, with affordable Belgian prices. Make sure to try the shrimp croquettes, the brasserie cuisine, the trappist beers (and every other but there's more than 800 different ones brewed in the country...), the chocolates (the best being Marcolini and Wittamer, both situated on the Grand Sablon Place).
A few tips :
- some neighborhoods might be a bit unsafe, just avoid showing expensive jewelry or cameras.
- if the weather is rainy (as often), get out at night, the city gets a dramatic aspect, with the public lights reflected and the Belgians partying
- parties mostly take place around the Bourse and in the St-Gery neighbourhood, but also in many other places

Liege, Liege Region, Belgium
Liege is a very calm, romantic, and undisturbed by tourists kind of a city where, if you cannot speak french, you'll be completely confused because everyone around you will be confused that you cannot understand their French! In the center of Liege is a river that divides the city; the Central Station is often covered in Fog and train exhaust, especially in the winter and it places you so far away from your own reality. I felt as if I were in a black and white movie when my Thaly's train left Koln, Germany and found it's way into Belgium. At night, there's a really super cool cyber cafe/bar called Cyber-pot-au-Lait. The beer's excellent as is the music. I love cold weather. Well occasionally. In December, it's absolutely beautiful at night if you see the opera house and the colorful lights drowned by the fog. The closest comparison that I can recommend is if you've seen the movie "Crazy Love", the third act when the main character is grown up in a bar. Dominique Derrudere films this colorfully lit bar in the fog at the beginning of that scene. That's as close of a visual as it comes to describing Liege in December. There is also an Muslim Quarters where you'll find some excellent Algerian food.
