Dendermonde means mouth of the Dender, and it is located at the junction where the River Dender joins the River Scheldt.   It has a charming Grote Markt (market square) which was partially rebuilt after suffering damage in World War I.   As well, the Cathedral of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve- Vrouwekerk) dates back to the 14th century and contains works from artists such as Anthony Van Dyck.  Every 10 years, Dendermonde holds a procession celebrating the legendary horse Ros Beiaard as well.

Dendermonde is near popular destinations such as Brussels and Gent.
