Gent, Oost-Vlaanderen Region, Belgium
Ghent is my city of dreams. it is a student city and it haves so many parties. You can find cheap and very delicious turkish restaurant at the 'sleepstraat' it is around 4,50€ for one pizza with a salad, and believe me, you will not finish your plate! they put so much pizza on your plate, you will hardly finish it. to interact with the locals, go to brown pubs, ghent haves so many fancy bars. Beer is cheap in Belgium. (around 1,80€) gay and lesbians, they have plenty off bars for you! we have 'use it' that's the touristdesk for young alternative people. you can get free maps there. but also tips where to go. night life: go to overpoort for more commercial stuff, go to the 'vlasmarkt' for alternative bars.

Brussels, Brussels Region, Belgium
I spent a day in Brussels and although it had a similar charm like most big European cities do, it was lacking that certain something for me. We originally had reservations for a hostel, but my roommate and I had already been traveling for 3 weeks so we were exhausted by the time we got into Brussels. We stayed in a hotel by the main train station, which turned out to be in a borderline bad neighborhood of Middle Eastern descent (the US had just declared war against Iraq and there were many protests - this was around March/April 2003). We had gotten chased down by some Middle Eastern residents who wanted to know our opinion about the war, which made us feel very uncomfortable. The one good thing was one guy warned us not to go down certain streets as they were very hostile towards Americans. As such, it made the rest of our day pretty dull. We went to the Grand Place, got some Belgian Fries and Godiva chocolate and we visited the big atom building which was more on the outskirts of the city. Overall, I'd say skip Brussels if you don't have too much time on your itinerary and go to nearby France or The Netherlands instead.
Brussels, Brussels Region, Belgium
Famous for beer, waffles, and chocolate. You'll be able to find the waffles on any street corner, no joke. If you're into shopping, the boutiques are quite pricey, so bring lots of Euros. There's also a red light district for all you pervs.
Antwerpen, Antwerpen Region, Belgium

Best choice of city for cafe/bars tho tad expensive with hot chocolate costing around £5 (March 08) so not the best value for money weekend break Must go places - chocolate museum, beer factory tour and canal boat trip Felt a really safe place for all female/single travellers
Brussels, Brussels Region, Belgium
The center of the city is the gay area, lots of bars, clubs restaurants! Don't miss The Fuse (techno, electro) The Recyclart (Drum'n bass) which is in an old metro station.
