People in West-Vlaanderen Region
Bruges, West-Vlaanderen Region, Belgium
Tour Bruges one chocolate at a time. There are many, many chocolate shops in Bruges. Try them all, one chocolate at a time. The shop owners are used to people who come in to buy one, two or three different chocolates at a time so don't be afraid to sample your way through chocolate heaven. Before you leave, stock up on your favorites. Just remember NOT TO LEAVE YOUR CHOCOLATES IN THE CAR if you are traveling during the warm months. Oh yes, DO climb the steps to the top of clock tower. Unforgettable views and great pictures. Try to stay in one of the many small hotels off the main road. Also, have coffee on the main square but avoid eating in those restaurants: they are expensive and the food is not as good as in spots in more secluded sections of this amazing city. The boat ride is quite expensive but a very nice way to cruise through this city with its canals. Try to stay at least two days and longer if you can.

West-Vlaanderen Region Culture
Kortrijk, West-Vlaanderen Region, Belgium
Kortrijk is a small yet lovely provincial town in West-Flanders (Belgium). Over the last few years, it's been mainly known for its construction sites (the major wants to leave his mark on the city by building design bridges, design buildings and all other things design. It's not as touristic as Bruges, but who looks good, will find some excellent budget restaurants and pittoresque museums. he rock scene in Kortrijk has really flourished over the last few years, with bands like Goose, Amen Ra, Hitch, Galatasaray and Ozark Henry. The ciy of Kortrijk spends a lot of money on cultural activities: check the Buda Island and the Buda Kunstencentrum, which has its own movie theatre, the Budascoop.

Oostduinkerke is the only town in the entire world where they still fish for shrimp with a horse. You can still visit the Horse-fishermen on the Oostduinkerke Beach.

Oostende, West-Vlaanderen Region, Belgium
Ostend is one of the cities you must really visit if you visit the belgian coast. The restaurants are very cosy and there are always special fish menu's. The fish is nice and fresh so enjoy it. If the weather is bad, and that can happen in Belgium, you can always visit seaparks and art galleries.

Bruges, West-Vlaanderen Region, Belgium
If you visit Bruges, you must certainly visit 'De Halve Maan' family brewery. It is today the only remaining brewery in the centre of Bruges. It has recently won at "The International Australian Beer Awards 2008" two prices. Gold for the "Brugse Zot Blonde" and silver for the 'Brugse Zot Double Brown".

Stop here on a bike trip from Brugge, and grab a sandwich. If it's a nice day, have your sandwich in a little pocket partk that abuts a little farm. You'll see little goats leaping around in the spring. If it's rainy, hit the bookshops.

Bruges, West-Vlaanderen Region, Belgium
If you're back packing your way around Europe, I'd definitely suggest trying one of Brugge's many youth hostels. The Passage is a pretty nice little hostel with a BB feel to it. The Bauhaus is a quirky little place that's good to lay your head for a while and the nightlife definitely makes an impression. Another good place to drop your packs for a while with a nice lively nightlife is the Snuffle . They're all pretty cheap and you definitely won't be disappointed with the city.

The Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival comes to Brugge each winter. It is well worth a visit but to avoid the crowds try going towards the end of the festival. We went on the last day it was open in mid January and it was busy but not as bad as it had been when it first opened in late November. www.brugesinfo.com holds a competition each year to win free tickets but otherwise it is around EUR11 for an adult ticket.
