You might need to find a guide to get there and hook you up, but this was the most memorable part of Belize.  Wile there you'll meet a man who will take you through the jungle to a cave that was once inhabited by the Mayans.  Not good for the claustrophobic! then he will take you to a cave with a river running through it and you can swim out of the cave.  This cave entrance in surrounded by cliffs and is breath taking.  you can then spend the afternoon hanging out in one of the many water falls and pools.

If you access by sea from Guatemala, the immigration point will be Punta Gorda.  Be sure the custum "officers" don't charge you a dime.  They did it to me the last time I was there and 5 minutes later I found out they were not allowed to charge anything.  I went back and claimed my money back, the gave it back to me but not so politely.

I recommend Pedros Inn.  $10 beds with two bed rooms.  Good pizza and plenty of beer available downstairs.  A bit loud.  Pedro himself is a nice guy.  The abundance of maps within the town make it easy to find.
