Cotonou is Benin's largest city, and the country's economic hub.  Many government and diplomatic offices are here.  Cotonou is located on a small strip of land between Lake Nokoue and the Atlantic Ocean, and its name means "mouth of the river of death."  Major landmarks include the National University of Benin, the Notre Dame des Apotres (Cotonou Cathedral), and the Dantokpa Market.

Go visit the beach far away from the city (about 20 km West on a pretty bad street - but it's worth it!). Especially when you can book one of these Palm-Houses :-)

Cotonou is the capital of Benin and it is considered a good place to see various Voodoo related attractions since Benin is a center of the Voodoo religion.
