Bosnia and Herzegovina People & CultureBH adopts parliamentary democracy in its constitution. Under the terms of the 1995 Dayton Peace agreement, BH consists of two entities: Federacija Bosne i Hercegovine (the Federation of Bosnia & Herzegovina) and Republika Srpska (the Serbian Republic). Each has its own president. In addition, the presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina consists of two members and one chairperson, elected every four years. The make-up of the presidency is: one Bosniak, one Serb and one Croat. The chair rotates every eight months. The presidency appoints a chairman of the Council of Ministers. A central government, based in Sarajevo, is responsible for national functions including foreign, external trade and finance policies. Two thirds of the seats in the national assembly are reserved for Federation candidates and one third for Serbs. In addition, Republika Srpska elects its own president and national assembly, while the Federation elects a national assembly. Last edited Dec 4, 08 2:01 AM. Contributors: Contributors: Andrew W. The country is estimated to have a population of 4 million people, one-tenth of whom live in the capital of Sarajevo, but these numbers are subject to errors as a result of the Yugoslav War, political instability and migration in the last two decades. Bosnia & Herzegovina is charaterised by its ethnic and religious diversity. The main ethnic groups (all percentages are approximations) are Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) - 48%, the Serbs - 37%, and the Croats - 14%. As an acknowledgement of the three main religious communities (Islamic, Orthodox and Roman Catholic), the government of BH allows its citizens to take off two working days per year for religious purposes.

I met a band who had a gig there and they got everything stolen from their track. It seems that robbery is very frequent in Sarajevo. People used to tell me that almost everywere in Bosnia. A bad reputation which actually seems to be true. Accomodation: it's plenty of BBs there. Actually they are like houses with a pair of vacant rooms people tend to transform into "tourists rooms". I suggest you book there rather than a chain hotel (there's a Holiday Inn but hey... they really need us to support local economy!) Food: quite cheap actually, You can find lovely places to dine exp. in the town center. They usually have an inner garden too. Try the coffee, which is made in quite an "oriental" style. What to bring: bring... a bag. Place ALL of your money there and then always keep your eyes on that. Don't bring expensive goodies you can't walk with. Extra tips: The centre is really beautiful since it has been almost completely rebuilted after war. Therefore, it's important you take some time to visit the rest of the city. You'll see houses with bullets signs on the walls and a status of ruin. But you'll figure out a bit better what the was has been to the city. A bit painful and sad but... travel is learning too. Try to find someone to chat with asking about that period and how life and city population has changed. That can be very instructive. Good tip? Good tip? (0) Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina beautifull old city with mostar bridge very good restaurant it is worth to see the jumping to the river from the bridge muslim ortodox culture Good tip? (0) Velika Kladusa, Bosnia and Herzegovina Cheep clothing at their local open air marcet. You should see it, as this is where the cultures meet. Bargain, or at least try to. You can pay with croatian kuna, euro, or bosnian KM. Watch out for the drivers. They don't really drive as safe as they should. Good tip? (0) Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina A city that was originally meant to be the capital of Bosnia and Hercegovina. There are many paces to shop and it is great if you want to take in the Serbian culture. Visit the beautiful church in the city centre and have a traditional Serbian pie snack from the bakery! Good tip? (0) Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina Dorada at Fellini's: How to spend a thoroughly enjoyable evening in Sarajevo? That's easy: meet some good friends whom you have not seen for quite a while, join them with your nicest colleagues and go to a decent place to have dinner. To the Restoran Fellini , for example. Not only do you get the nicest selection of Italian wines outside Italy, but also the best Bosnia-Hercegovina's vineyards have to offer. And we were even more lucky: just today some fresh Dorade (sea bass) had arrived, excellent Mediterranean fish directly from the Adriatic. And how to find the place? Well, every cabdriver in Sarajevo worth his (or her) salt should know it. Don't give them the address: Branilaca Sarajevo 5. Because nobody in Sarajevo knows where to find Branilaca Sarajevo . But everybody knows where the Bosnian Cultural Center , the headquarters of the Sarajevo Film Festival is. Go there. The restaurant is just opposite, on the other side of the street. Good luck and enjoy! Good tip? (0) Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina Livno is picturesque small town north from Split in Croatia. Livno is one of the oldest settlements in Europe, known far since 892.High mountains, forests, wide range of wild animals as bear, wolf, fox, deer, clean rivers rich with fish, some interesting caves and even wild horses in nearby area makes this region European ecological heaven, still unknown and untouched.Livno cheese, produced both from sheep and cows milk is respected as a one of the best cheese trademark all over south central Europe! Good tip? (0) Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina Restaurant Dr. Food, obala Kulina bana 10, best steak around! Good selection of (mostly) Italian wines to go along. Desserts are a must. On every visit I dine there at least once, cannot recommend it enough. Don't expect any local cuisine though, completely different story. I can also recommend restaurant Via Del Corso for fish and shell menu! Good tip? (0) Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina I can only recommend the place, it is truly a beautiful city, very clean, very modern and the inhabitants are very kind and helpful. Nightlife is amazing too. Inexpensive. Food is tasty, do not leave the place without trying burek, special cevap Banja Luka style and pljeskavice. Very safe and fun place, full (FULL!!) of students as Banja Luka is a university town. You'll find plenty of sport facilities (new, very good quality) too. I can't say a single negative thing!
