Botswana

One of the last few destinations in Africa that truly harkens back to the essence of safari, Botwsana remains primarily a wide expanse of roadless terrain, where the wildlife is diverse and untamed. Situated in Sub-Saharan African immediately north of South Africa, the Kalahari dessert covers almost 70% of the land’s surface. Here is where Botswana’s two largest parks – the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and the Gemsbok National Park can be found. The Okavango Delta – the world’s largest inland delta, is situated in the northwest. Formed by the Okavango river empting into a 6,000 square mile territory, it is known as “the river that never finds the sea.” It is home to an amazing variety of birds and plant life, as well as clear waters and small islands. Chobe National Park, located nearby, is where you will find an abundant elephant population. South of that, at the Makgadikgadi salt pans – all that remain of a vast lake, live herds of blue wildebeest, antelopes, and flamingos. Those interested in archeology should be sure to visit the Tsodilo Hills, where over 2750 ancient rock paintings have been found charting thousands of years of human habitation. It is considered a national monument. Those interested in unspoiled nature who are not averse to roughing it a little will find Botswana an memorable experience.

Valencia, Central Region, Botswana
Go in the spring during La Feria de Fallas, it's not to be missed! I really really liked Valencia. During Fallas you can walk around to different paella competitions and taste all the different recipes, it's great (paella originated in Valencia)! Also, make sure to go to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento when they burn the giant falla and have the mascleta, they're both great!

Maun is the perfect spot to become a pilot. You learn by flinging for little companies over the Okavango Delta. Tis is magnificent!
Maun, Botswana
Maun is your last place to shop and fill up on gas and water before you embark into the bush of Savuti, Moremi or the Okavango. A town which has exploded through tourism. Places to stay along the river are Crocodile Camp and Audi Camp to meet other travellers and swap tall stories at the bar. Most people are only overnighters however.
Maun, Botswana
A good place to stay and have a drink is The old Bridge backpakkers.

Maracay, Central Region, Botswana
From here you can catch a bus through the national park Henri Pittier to the beach town of Puerto Colombia. Get money here because there are no ATMs in PC. There is one place that will do a dodgy cash advance on a credit card once you get there, if you ask around, but otherwise you are stuck. PC is a love it or hate it place. Good beach atmosphere, but definitly not an isolated stretch by any means. Just vey relaxing and Caribbean feeling. You can camp on the beach at Playa Grande. Double rooms in town go for about US$20 per night.
Francistown, North-East Region, Botswana
Stay in a grass roofed cottage! I can't remember what they are called, but they were beautiful!
Gaborone, South-East Region, Botswana
Capital city in Botswana. Check out the outdoor markets. Eat a pie. Stop by the Baba shop. It's awesome.
Nata, Botswana
Be sure to look out for bush babies while at Nata (in the evening). These tiny monkeys with long tails are fed fruit near to the bar. They are so cool!
Kasane, Botswana
There are many places to camp in Kasane, however for the next year or so I would not recomend Toro Lodge as they are building and consruction seriously affects the atmosphere of camping on the banks of the Chobe. Try Kubu Lodge or others. When In Kasane You must do a sunset cruise on the Chobe River. It is the most amazing thing I have experienced in my life I think. Africa Magic that gets into your blood (and I'm African...!)
Maun, Botswana
If you are there you have to do a flight over the Okavango-Delta. It doesn't matter witch time of the year it is always amazing, haunting, the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mochudi, Kgatleng Region, Botswana
Mochudi has a very nice (small) museum. It is also the home of Precious Ramotswe of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (check Alexander McCall Smith on the Internet).
Maun, Botswana
Audi camp has cheap camping spots. nice people there.
Puerto Cabello, Central Region, Botswana
