One of the last few destinations in Africa that truly harkens back to the essence of safari, Botwsana remains primarily a wide expanse of roadless terrain, where the wildlife is diverse and untamed. Situated in Sub-Saharan African immediately north of South Africa, the Kalahari dessert covers almost 70% of the land’s surface. Here is where Botswana’s two largest parks – the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and the Gemsbok National Park can be found. The Okavango Delta – the world’s largest inland delta, is situated in the northwest. Formed by the Okavango river empting into a 6,000 square mile territory, it is known as “the river that never finds the sea.” It is home to an amazing variety of birds and plant life, as well as clear waters and small islands. Chobe National Park, located nearby, is where you will find an abundant elephant population. South of that, at the Makgadikgadi salt pans – all that remain of a vast lake, live herds of blue wildebeest, antelopes, and flamingos. Those interested in archeology should be sure to visit the Tsodilo Hills, where over 2750 ancient rock paintings have been found charting thousands of years of human habitation. It is considered a national monument. Those interested in unspoiled nature who are not averse to roughing it a little will find Botswana an memorable experience.

If you get a chance make a sunset river cruise from Kasane. The sight of elephants bathing in the river while the sunset will be one you'll never forget! Good tip? (+2) A good place to stay and have a drink is The old Bridge backpakkers. Good tip? (+2) Stay at Nata Lodge, outside of town - otherwise don't bother stopping [also watch out for pot holes!!!]
There is an awesome Braai on Sat nites!!!! Good tip? (+1)
