Travel Tips from people who've been to Manaus
Manaus is the gateway to the real Amazones. From there you can be picked up in a tiny boat to be taken to a resort that's nested in the wilderness. Having said that, most of them are quite luxurious and very comfortable. Trust me, you still feel you are in the middle of the wilderness (duh, you really are!). I had an amazing guide, who actually caught a live, extremely venomous snake for us so we could take a picture of it! He let it go back to its home after we had our Kodak Moments. I would highly recommended anyone in the area to stay at any of the resorts there, all are well looked after. And definately visit the Monkey Rescue! Some of the monkeys have decided to stay after they were nursed back to health (they are not caged) and are very eager to play and check you hair for fleas. Heaps of fun! Good tip? In the north of brazil, lots of tours to the amazones, possibilities to visti regional parks and generally safe (for south american standards, but be careful and try to book tours with known companies a large groups or failing that, get a local)
I took some trips up the amazones and up to leticia in Colombia (I am Colombian). Woth the trip. If you continue towards the montains, you'll get to see some manities and if you are lucky some pink dolphins. Great trip! Good tip? (0) The night tours on Amazonas River are very interesting if you want to see at least a small part of the wild life in Amazonas, fresh water alligators and some other nocturnal animals are always visible, sometimes you can even hear the jaguars walking beside the river!!! or ask the drivers to stop the motor for a while so you can listen to the silence and wildbess of Amazonas.Don t miss it!!!Ask for CAN and DENIZ brothers: perfect tourguides + nice people!!!
