Northeastern Brazil Dos and Don'ts
Travel Tips for Dos and Donts in Northeastern BrazilJoao Pessoa, Northeastern Brazil, Brazil Joao Pessoa is quiet Brazilian city, located right under the Equator. The city has a nice atmosphere and is relatively safe for travellers, even though caution is always advised. Less than two hours from hot spots like Natal and Recife, Joao Pessoa is still less touristical and for that, much cheaper to visit and shop!
The bus system is pretty good, but car rentals or taxis are always a good option. There are many nice malls, and an entire building dedicated to local handcraft where yuo can buy unique and pretty cheap gifts for people at home. Tambau and Manaira are nice beaches about 15 minutes from the city center where you can just sit and enjoy the sun with a chilly caipirinha! Don´t forget to visit the pretty beaches outside of the city like Jacuma or Coqueirinho, you´ll feel like you´re lost in paradise.
Watching the sunset in Jacaré is an absolute MUST. There are many bars and restaurants in the area and when the moment approaches, they all play Ravel´s bolero while we just gasp!Romantic and unique!
The city also has some historical buildings, like the convent of Sao Francisco, famous for it´s barroque ceiling.
Joao Pessoa might not be in most Brazilian guides, but I definitely reccomend it! Go, before everyone finds out about it! Good tip? (0) Olinda, Northeastern Brazil, Brazil Lovely town!!! Take a tour with one of the local "free" travel guides, waiting for you at the central square. You can tip the guide as much as you think is reasonable. This is their way to stay of the streets and earn honest money. Take some extra money with you if you're interested in local art! Good tip? (0) Pipa, Northeastern Brazil, Brazil Pipa is simply a surfers-hippie-open-minded-adults paradise... Combination of unbelievable geography (falesias, green, waves, etc.) and world-wide travellers make it a very sophisticated while laid back destination. Don't miss watching the sunrise (5:00 am)!! And the dolphin appearances at some of the beaches... Good tip? (0) Nossa Senhora do O, Northeastern Brazil, Brazil If possible, go to a local party!! They put uo food stands and use an open field to set up stages and music... Forró dancing with locals... no tourists!! Good tip? (0) Maceio, Northeastern Brazil, Brazil Great beaches with warm water... inside a non-expensive town with really nice locals. Good tip? (0) Top Cities in Northeastern BrazilBradt Travel Guides |
