Travel Tips from people who've been to Winnipeg
If this isn't the coldest place on earth in wintertime then I don't want to go anywhere colder! Minus 27 degrees Celsius with windchill! But I had a good time. Can't tell you about accommodation as I stayed with friends of friends. But public transport is good. The centre for the local first nations tribes was a great place to visit. I had a meeting with a representative and swapped some similarities and differences between the native people and Maori. I went to a high school ice hockey game with the family I stayed with. Wicked!!! Smashing into the perspex and so fast. If I couldn't watch rugby or league, this would be the game to watch! Good shopping and lots of history. Very good museum to visit. I would like to go back in the summer to compare. Good tip? (0) I visited in the summer, so I wouldn't know about the cold. The temperatures weren't outrageously high. Also, I can't comment on accomodations, as I stayed with a friend. My overall impression is that the city is hardly any different from most cities that size in North America. The roads are usually poor. The city does have some great places to go to, however. One of them is the Manitoba Museum, another one is the Royal Canadian Mint. As far as food goes, nothing special, but the food court at the Forks is as good a place to start as any. Winnipeg does offer good spectator sports, such as CFL football and baseball. Public transportation is pretty good, and the people are friendly. Good tip? (0)
