Canada's capital is a picturesque city situated along the Ottawa river. Popular stops include the Rideau Canal, the Ottawa Locks, the Byward Market - an open airmarket filled with shops, cafes and museums and then onwards towards Parliament Hill. In the winter time, the Rideau Canal freezes to become the longest skating rink in the world. When you're in downtown Ottawa, you're within walking distance to Hull (located in the province of Quebec), where the Museum of Civilization lies.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Ottawa
I suggest going in the fall if you are going because the colours of the leaves on the trees is simply beautiful. Good tip? (+1) home of our parliament, what more can i say?
Good tip? (+1) Ottawa might not be the most exciting city in Canada, like Whistler, but the beauty and tranquility make up for that!
Make sure you go on a hike at Mud Lake. If you have yougn children, you can catch and release frogs and turtles. Definitly look into the hiking trails. They are not dificult. If you want chalenging, go to the Rockies! they are beautful too!
If you are interested in the Parliment Buildings and you are Canadian, then you can e-mail your member of Parliment and ask for a tour. Ok, you might not be a VIP but you might be a Semi-Important Person.
If you happen to be down by the University of Ottawa, try to eat breakfast at a Restaurant called Father and Sons. It is a pub at night, but in the morning, it is just filled with University Students eating and some studying.
All the museums are wonderful. Kids will enjoy the nature museum and the Science and tech museum. The war museum is also worth a visit. Sometimes plays are on, you can buy tickets online.
Downtown is a nice place to be. There might be a few beggars but they won't annoy you.

Enjoy Ottawa!
Oh! And the taxis can be really dirty! They can smell bad too. Not all though! Good tip? (0)
