Quebec Dos and Don'ts
Travel Tips for Dos and Donts in QuebecMontreal, Quebec, Canada Really nice city with lots of nightlife activities during summer (Festival Juste pour rire, Local Gay Pride, etc). Corner of St-Catherine Street and St-Denis street is the place to be (really hot and fun). People is really friendly and from all classes. Visit Park Mont-Royal, Biodome, Jardin Botanique (if you like flowers), Stade Olympique has nothing special but a great view but a bit expensive...) and if you like attractions go to La Ronde (Ile Saint-Helene). Finish at night by a dinner near the Vieux-Port (old Montréal) or by a hockey game at the Molson Center ;) Good tip? (+1) Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada New bar to watch out for: Telephone Rouge on Wellington St S., featuring shows by interesting local indie bands, all sorts of cultural happenings and a young friendly staff! ...things are happening in Sherbrooke right now! Good tip? (0) Quebec, Quebec, Canada order a poutine here....but make sure its made with real cheese curds! Good tip? (0) Quebec, Quebec, Canada It is preferable to have some grasp on French when traveling in Québec City and interacting with the locals - never just assume that they can speak English. I enjoy walking around vieux Québec (The old city). It is still partially walled and resembles a cobbled european city - P'tit Champlain was the site of the first Canadian settlement dating to 1604 and Québec City was also where the battle between General Woolf and Montcalm occurred on the Plains of Abraham. On one street (la grande allée) in vieux Québec there is even a cannon ball from this famous battle lodged in a tree. There are some great mural art projects all around the city. During the wintertime La Ville de Québec is home to a wonderful winter carnival and during the spring and summer it is bustling with many markets, street performers and a general good vibe. Catch an evening gig at Chez son père on the upper floor of a buliding on rue St. Jean in vieux Québec. Good tip? (0) Montreal, Quebec, Canada Overall Montreal is a very clean city. If you enjoy good food, it's definitely a great place to visit. There are lots of small coffee shops and espresso shops that will make you forget all about Starbucks, or even your local underground coffee bar. While their Chinatown is fairly small, Montreal has some great Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants. Good tip? (0) |
