Quebec History

It's worth actually walking around the wall of the old city - I recommend literally walking along the wall, as much as possible. It's an amazing view, and there's 400+ years of history and architecture to watch unfolding before your eyes. Thinking about the violence and wars leading to the construction of these massive fortifications, including the Citadel (also worth a visit) deepened my appreciation for all the hard work of past generations of Canadians to resolve deep conflicts that could easily have carried forth through the generations... as they have in other parts of the world. That had never really sunk in until I stood there and saw the real places where battles and massacres took place.
