Travel Tips from people who've been to Yukon Territory
Whitehorse is so much more than people think. This is big little town and the people are incredible. I have only been in the winter but there are amazing this to do in the summer. In winter there is a ski hill outside the town, numerous kennels to go dog-sledding – I HIGHLY recommend it, and there are natural hotsprings outside of the city about 30 minutes away.   I always stay at the High Country Inn as it has the best newer rooms and buffet. It is a little out of the way but nothing is too far in Whitehorse.   Good restaurants are G&P, The Cave, but stay away from Giorgio’s and the creperie I think both are vastly overpriced and the food inferior. Sam N Andys is OK for a fun night out, The best Mexican is at Sanchez Cantina. The owner goes home to Mexico for January though. Lunch is at the Talisman.  They also have a Boston Pizza – go Tuesday for cheap pasta night.

Carcross is a small Native American village with a great gift shop and ice cream parlor. The visitor center was being remodeled when we were there so we did not get to visit, but the Retirement Home is a must see. You can also get your passport stamped at the Post Office. Carcross is also home to the world's smallest desert... quite literally... most ppl don't think of a desert in the Yukon but there is one, made up of glacial sand. Caribou Crossing is just outside of Carcross and open during the tourist season.  The most fantastic BBQ chicken and all-you-can-eat homemade donuts are served up along with hot drinks to ward off the Yukon chill.  There's an ice cream parlor here, as well as a museum, sled dogs & puppies, horses (watch your backpack) and ATV rides into the desert.  This place was the highlight of all the places we visited during our Alaskan cruise... made me want to come live up here in the beautiful Yukon Territory.

I have lived in Dawson for the past 5 summers, it is one of my favorite places.

For food, check out Antionette's or Sour Dough Joes.

For hotels, try the Triple J hotel in the summer, or the El Dorado in the winter.

It's tough to find transportation to the town, flying is really the only option if you don't have a car. Hitchhiking is easier here than most places if you are alright with possibly waiting a couple hours for someone to drive by. And in the winter it's not a good idea since it gets extremely cold.

For a good drink go to Bombay Peggy's for a martini, or the snake pit for some local colour. Also go to the Downtown and ask to do "The Toe".
