Travel Tips from people who've been to Whitehorse
Whitehorse is so much more than people think. This is big little town and the people are incredible. I have only been in the winter but there are amazing this to do in the summer. In winter there is a ski hill outside the town, numerous kennels to go dog-sledding – I HIGHLY recommend it, and there are natural hotsprings outside of the city about 30 minutes away.   I always stay at the High Country Inn as it has the best newer rooms and buffet. It is a little out of the way but nothing is too far in Whitehorse.   Good restaurants are G&P, The Cave, but stay away from Giorgio’s and the creperie I think both are vastly overpriced and the food inferior. Sam N Andys is OK for a fun night out, The best Mexican is at Sanchez Cantina. The owner goes home to Mexico for January though. Lunch is at the Talisman.  They also have a Boston Pizza – go Tuesday for cheap pasta night.

Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon, and home to some of the most spectacular scenery in Canada. Named by some the Wilderness City, Whitehorse nestles on the banks of the famous Yukon River surrounded by mountains and clear mountain lakes. Plus, I have relatives residing all over the Whithorse, Marsh Lake, historic Carcross, the town at the crossroads to the Klondike. Explore the Tlingit lakeside community of Teslin and the ‘Gateway to the Yukon’, Watson Lake, before circling back through Faro and Ross River. For a change of pace plan a visit Old Crow, a traditional Gwich'in community in North Yukon.   Lots of cousins!!!

Famous for the White Horse rapids on the Yukon River you can still find uniformed mounties patrolling the river banks today. There still stands historic builddings from the gold mining era including an old dredge boat that had been turned into a casino upriver aways. There is a wonderful riding stable with wonderful vistas of Miles Canyon. International dog sled race starts there in Feb followed by a rendezvous. History buffs will enjoy the White Pass train station and the SS Klondike.
