Beyond palm fringed beaches and beautiful turquoise waters, the Caribbean has a rich history shaped by a blend of cultures, colonial influences, slavery, revolt and more.  Visit any of the sugar plantations in Barbados, Antigua, or Martinique to see what plantation life was like, or see the remains of many forts in Cuba.  Alternatively, if you just want to get away from it all, head Magens Bay -- one of the most beautiful beaches in the world on Saint Thomas, try scuba diving in the Bahamas or go to the Sting Ray alley in the Cayman Islands to pet and feed the rays. Visit the Blue Mountains of Jamaica to try some of the most expensive and sought after coffees in the world, or visit one of the many Caribbean rum distilleries.  Whatever your fancy, whether to learn about the history and culture, to enjoy the unique music from the region or to relax, the Caribbean has something to discover.

If staying in Varadero it is very worth your while to make the trip to Havana for a real taste of what Cuba is about.

Vinales is one of the more touristy places in Cuba. Be sure to ask for the prices before going on activities. A 45 min evening walk in a finca (farm) cost us 15 CUC (about USD17) each!

Be sure to go horseback riding (5 CUC per hour) and visit Cuevas Santo Tomas, the 2nd largest cave system in the Americas

Since this is the island under British goverment british laws apply! It effected me when I tried to smoke in a restaurant because smoking is not allowed in any public place except the streets. There is nothing to do downtown. You can walk around but there is nothing interesting to find except few restaurants, international food shops and things like that. People seem to be bored and they are not very friendly or talkative. I couldn' t realize what's their problem. If you want to relax go to the beach on other side of the Island because Tortola has probably the nicest beaches in the Caribbean. However I wouldn't recommend this island to the people willing to party unless you come with a group of friends. In that case the place doesn't metter at all!
