One of the poorest countries in Africa, the tourist infrastructure has just not been a priority. Very few of the roads are paved, making the country very difficult to visit during the wet season. The country has been wrought with conflict and even now, travel advisories are in place by several governments. Named after a lake by the same name, Chad is geographically divided into three regions. The northern part of the country extends into the Sahara, within which lies the Tibesti Mountains, a group of dormant volcanoes known to be the home range of the Toubou people. It is also the site of numerous cave paintings. Just south, lies the Ennedi desert, featuring bizarre rock formations, desert lakes, canyons and prehistoric caves. The central part is primarily grass and shrub steppes, whereas the southern zone is woodland savanna. The Bahr Salamat Faunal Reserve, and within it the Zakouma National Park within the southern zone with several conservation areas. There is also a controlled hunting area within this region.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Chad
L'hôtel des Chasses, proche du Chari ! Qui connaît ? Good tip? (+1) No much to do so when you come here we will meet sooner or latter. The places I will recommend you to visit are the Carnivore on Charles de Gaulle road, The pool of Novotel and the Chinese restaurant buffet on sundays also in front of Novotel, after that all the locations you will eat are the Bistros around the town. Sighing is not advisable, taking pictures is forbidden and you can get into serious troubles. Tourism is not the word you will use to come here, but work, and humanitarian relief id the daily tonic for all expatriates and even locals as them remain to be the main source of income. The beauty of the place resides in the people living here, most of them good hearted and tired of war and poverty. The positive attitude in many of them reminds you the strength of human spirit. Good tip? (0)
