About Chile Planning a Trip to Chile
Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile Best place ever!! Everyone has to go there at least one time in their lives! Good tip? (0) Las Condes, Santiago & Surrounding Region, Chile If you are travelling with children and want them to meet other kids - the best time to hit the parks is 4 - 7 pm when Chilean families come out in swarms. It's ace - the kids all play together (alongside one another) and share toys etc. There is an icecream man doing the circuit of most parks and plenty of adult company. Good tip? (0) Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile Want to know the best time to visit Easter Island? Early February, to experience the Tapati Festival, which celebrates Rapa Nui culture. Good tip? (0) Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile It is expensive on Easter Island if yo're eating out all the time. One way to save money is cook your own food / buy your own drinks. On the 'edge' of town in Hanga Roa is a gas station that has some of the best selection of beers and snacks. Otherwise, the main street downtown has a decent supermarket / grocery store not far from the Mercado Artesanal. Good tip? (0) Mejillones, Norte Grande, Chile next to mejillones there is a beach called Hornitos is great place the water is not warm but is good you can swim. Also you can put a tent on the beach and stay there all the time you want and is free you dont have pay for that and also there are toilet so is a great place Good tip? (0) Calama, Norte Grande, Chile Calama is a city that you should visit ONLY if you are on your way to San Pedro de Atacama and you need to book a bus trip to it or some lodging. If you can arrange all that travel stuff (hotels, buses, tours, etc) by internet, PLEASE DO. Calama has absolutely nothing to offer in terms of sightseeing, plus it is a really, really ugly city, full of decadent nightclubs (no kidding. Hideous nightclubs. But if your stomach is hard......be my guest).
If you do have to go to Calama, be very minded of your stuff, or you will regret it! And please don´t you ever go around walking at night!! The place is full of drunks, ho´s and other strange people.
I may seem a little bitter about this city but I am not. This stuff is just plain true. If you do what I say, you will have a really great time in San Pedro de Atacama......wich is an unveliebable place!!!! Good tip? (0) Hanga Roa, Norte Chico, Chile The scuba diving in Easter Island is remarkable - up to 40 metres of visibility! I dove with Orca Diving in Hanga Roa and was very much impressed - highly profession but still having fun. The dive in the harbour has a great variety of fish and a "surprise" Moa (giant stone head) for tourist photos! Good tip? (0) Valdivia, La Araucania & Lake Districts, Chile Stroll down along the waterfront and browse the fresh fruits and vegetables at the farmers market. To the right you'll see beautiful local produce and to the left you'll see fisherman tossing, gutting, and dicing fish. Their displays are impressive. Behind the fish market stalls you can see huge seals resting along the waterfront waiting to have their photos taken and to be fed scraps of fish. If you like ceviche, this is a great place to try it for a few chilean pesos. If you enjoy seafood in general, there are many restaurants along the water where they'll serve good quality shell fish for a reasonable price. Good tip? (0) Puerto Varas, La Araucania & Lake Districts, Chile The city is located 20 km north of Puerto Montt, on the south western shores of Lago Llanquihue. It has a population of 28,000 inhabitants and is in a splendid natural setting formed by the lake and the two volcanoes, Osorno and Calbuco. The climate is mild and wet, with no real dry season, and rainfall is a possibility at any time of year. Whist visiting you can see the Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, the Casino de Juegos de Puerto Varas, the Iglesia Luterana and Puerto Chico, which have buildings going back to the beginning of the 20th century. Good tip? (+1) Puerto Montt, La Araucania & Lake Districts, Chile Puerto Montt (population 175.000 aproximately) lies 1,021 km from Santiago on the northern shore of the Bay of Reloncaví. The port is very active here. It is the center of an agricultural and stockbreeding area, and the fishing boats bring their catch into the small port of Angelmó, to then be distributed around Chile. On a visit to Puerto Montt you can see places such as Pelluco, the seaside resort for Puerto Montt; the Museo Municipal Juan Pablo II; Angelmó, the fish market; the handicrafts market; the Cathedral and the Iglesia de los Jesuitas. Good tip? (+1) Dalcahue, La Araucania & Lake Districts, Chile If you are visiting Dalcahue and want to try local speciality, make sure you visit the restaurant over the harbour (1st floor) and order curanto, traditional food of Chiloe Island. It consists of shellfish, meat, fish, vegetables, potatoes and, according to the tradition, should be cooked on leaves placed on red-hot stones in a hole, in a ground. Just make sure you are quite hungry or have a one portion for two, as it is served in a huge amount! Good tip? (+1) Ancud, La Araucania & Lake Districts, Chile Belle ville du chilie au bord de mer attention c'est piquant Good tip? (+1) Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), Norte Chico, Chile The best spot to go watch a sunset is by Ahu Tahai, while the best sunrise location is at Ahu Tongariki. Good tip? (+1) Bradt Travel Guides |
