When you are in Suzhou, you have to visit Tiger Hill: ancient pagoda, impressive scenery.
For a selection of nice bars and restaurants: go to Jin Ji Hu Lake. After your meal, you can enjoy a nice walk.
For shopping, you should visit Guan Qian Street and Shi Quan Street. The latter street also has some bars that are frequented by both Chinese and Westerners.
Suzhou is a very industrialised city. As such, you'll meet a lot of westerners. For the best milkshake in town: go and find Southern Cross. Chances are the place will be packed with Americans.
