Travel Tips from people who've been to Yinchuan
The old part of the great wall is close to the city. It's maybe a 45 min drive out of town. Very worthwhile to visit since there are not tourists in Yinchuan at all. It will be an adventure to get there. You have to show the place on a map to the taxi driver, but also have a good sense of direction. Our taxi driver drove us first to the airport, then to the desert and finally we showed him which road to take. When we arrived we walked on the wall, and had a great time! No tourists around at all... Good tip? (+1) This provincial capital is a bit out of the way and hardly any tourists make it this far, but thats partly what makes it a fascinating place. 800 years ago it was the capital of the Xi Xia kingdom, a group of Tibetan decent who built some quite amazing tombs just outside the city. The city itself is built by the banks of the yellow river and there is a fantastic old pagoda in the town which you can climb (if you have a head for heights!) Good tip? (+1) Yinchuan is a comparatively small and quiet Chinese city. Overall, the province it is located in, Ningxia, is quite poor, even by China standards. Transport between Yinchuan and surrounding areas is still underdeveloped. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Yinchuan
