Travel Tips for History of Shanghai ProvinceShanghai, Shanghai Province, China I loved the Shanghai Bowuguan: the only decent art history museum i've seen in China Good tip? (0) Xinzhuang, Shanghai Province, China Shanghai has borne many nicknames throughout history, two of my favorites being The Jewel of Asia and The Whore of Asia. After several visits both names are particularly apt. There's much to see in Shanghai, and the city boasts such a rich history that its a better use of your time to forgo the museums and instead explore the living history that still inhabits the streets. Stroll down Nanjing St. to see capitalism gone wild, also stop by Toms Arcade to see hands down the best arcade in the country. Check out the Bund at night to see one of the most famous, and rightly so, skylines in the world. Xin Tian Di is a nice area to visit if you're looking for an upscale meal or drink. Note: bring money. Any vice you'd like to pursue can also be enjoyed here. If you're looking for the seedier aspect of things, think drugs and prostitution, simply hover around the large fountain on Nanjing St.. You'll be solicited whether or not you're interested. Good tip? (0) Shanghai Province, China While in Shanghai, take the time to visit Zhu Jia Jiao, also known as the "Venice of Shanghai". This remarkable gem in one of normally-bustling Shanghai's quieter neighborhoods is a retreat to a simpler, bygone era and is just an hour's bus ride from downtown Shanghai. Four hundred year old Zhu Jia Jiao sits on a tributary of the Cao Gang River and throughout its history played an important role in the area's commerce. Today it is a well-loved local tourist attraction (not many foreigners). The maze-like market truly bustles, filled with local produce, colorful wares and great bargains. The Water Village, with its exquisite bridges and tree-lined canals is spectacular, whether on foot or oar-propelled barge. Also visit temples, houses and gardens leading off the canals. Good tip? (0) Shanghai, Shanghai Province, China Jade Budda temple is a MUST. The Bund is breathtaking, nothing like western architecture. A water town is worth the drive, but only if you go early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Old Shanghai is great, The Yu Gardens are beautiful and full of history! Good tip?
