Gyantse Travel Guide

A historical outpost located in the Nyang Chu Valley and along the Friendship Highway  which connects  Kathmandu, Nepal to Lhasa, Tibet.  Gyantse is the fourth largest city in Tibet, and is sometimes referred to as the "Hero City."

the fortress in Gyantse is where the English army have beaten the Tibetan people for the first time in history. The road to the castle is the most interesting. on top there is the "anti-british museum" ;-)

it's not at all touristic, because most tourists just visit the pagoda and don't walk through the streets close by. It's a great opportunity to see for once not chinese, but tibetan city habitants...

Travel Tips for Gyantse

gyangze is about the size of a small english town, although it is the second largest city in tibet, which is much bigger than england. it has a large chinese population and it doesnt have much of a rugged tibetan feel to it any more. its still worth a visit though.
