People in Andean Highlands
Bogota, Andean Highlands, Colombia
Colombia isn't half as bad as people try to tell you it is. Bogota is a beautiful city, stop by the Colombia es Pasion store!

San Gil, Andean Highlands, Colombia
Beautiful town and very friendly people. There is a central park with tons of plants, some sort of botanic garden (Though, im not sure if that is called like that), it has two really big trees (different species) that have a story. If you go there dont forget the story!!

Know where you are going. Talk to people who have travelled to Colombia before, or are from Colombia before you head out!

Medellin, Andean Highlands, Colombia
I travel to Medellín quite oftely for work. Beautiful city, you will be impressed as soon as you see it from the road from the airport (located in Rio Negro, 45 min. away)... Green mountains clear to this gorgeous valley where Medellín is based, with its red-bricks buldings. I usually stay at Intercontinental hotel (very good) but they just opened Medellín Royal, which I really enjoyed (smaller, boutique-like). For people who still believe Colombia is dangerous... you shouldn't!! Avoid the conflictive areas but don't miss cities like this one. At night time, Parque Lleras is the place to go!

Medellin, Andean Highlands, Colombia
I love this place primarily because of my family connection to it. Aside from it offering anything from city life to suburbia to estates in farmlands, its weather is above par. Although it catches a bad rap for its drug/violence history, it has really cleaned up over the past 10 years. I've never really had any issues. It is an excellent place to travel , if visiting South America. Bogota is too americanized if you want to get away. The exhange rate has always been good. The food is amazing. Period. People are surprisingly friendly, especially compared to the U.S.

Villa de Leiva, Andean Highlands, Colombia
if you really like to stray off track and visit places never found in tours, consider going to a typical music concert in a "maloka" ! While exploring Villa de Leiva, we came accross a small advertisement in the main plaza for an interesting seeming concert. It was held waaaaaaaaaay up in a mountain, in a smaaaaall dome shaped shack. Luckily, we were with a local so when the time came to actually find the concert, it wasn't so difficult!
The music was of Colombian aborigines so don't expect to hear any hot music! However, the locale and the experience as a whole makes this truely unforgetable! :)

El Espinal, Andean Highlands, Colombia
If you want to feel the humidity and the warm climate between the beautifull Colombian mountains come here. You can rent a house or stay at a hostal. It is maybe the most economic trip I´ve ever made...

Bucaramanga, Andean Highlands, Colombia
Traffic in and around Bucaramanga is hilariously dense. Even if the city is much smaller than, say, Bangkok, traffic gets stuck quite in the same way, with bikes and motorbikes criss crossing lanes betreen busses, trucks and the like and making things worse for all. the scenery around the city is breathtaking (towards el canyon de chicamocha) and there's some nice hostals to stay.

Bogota, Andean Highlands, Colombia
Great place to go out at night! Lots of bars (18+) and cool restaurants open late (such as Crepes Waffles). Go take a tour to the plaza, the museum of gold, and the cable car that takes you to Monserrate.

Armenia, Andean Highlands, Colombia
Armenia is one small city but has a lot of things to do right here. It's 45 mins away from Bogota by plane, and almost 6 hours by car. It's located in the Departamento del Quindio, west of Colombia. U can find the National Coffee Park 30 mins away from Armenia in Montenegro. It's a really interesting theme park where u can learn all bout the coffee and the region... After that u can go to PANACA, and experience being with farm animals. If u come here u'll have to go find kayaking in the rapids, and maybe practice some Canopy. Don't forget to try the richest coffee in the World and enjoy the beautiful landscapes and the red dusks....U can ask about staying in the countryside or in the city where u can find a lot of hotels depending on ur budget.
