Costa Rica

Costa Rica (meaning "rich coast") was named by Christopher Columbus in 1502 on his fourth voyage to the New World.  In many ways, the country is rich.  It is the premier eco-tourism destination in Central America with beautiful shores on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, mystical cloud forests including its most famous - Monteverde and Arenal - one of the most active volcanoes in the world, with eruptions every five to ten minutes.

Those interested in culture will not be disappointed and the capital city of San José contains a number of important landmarks, including the Banco Nacional building, Plaza de la Cultura, some cathedrals, and the Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica. Wildlife lovers can go on turtle tours, see dolphins, whales, or take a canopy tour through some of the most biologically diverse forests teeming with 900 recorded species of birds, four species of monkeys and much more! From active pursuits, including trekking and top windsurfing sites to more scenic endeavors, including wildlife watching tours and botanical gardens, this country packs in a lot of punch.

Manuel Antonio is my favorite beach in Costa Rica! Especially the beach in the national park of Manuel Antonio is really beautiful and peaceful. I love the monkeys - but be careful, they can steal your clothes! ..

It is really cool to walk near the base of an active volcano.  And, if it is clear you can actually see the lava.  Unfortunately for me it was overcast the whole time we were there. But, still a cool area and you can..

Playa Hermosa If you want tranquility and beauty, make sure to visit Hermosa beach, amazing and relaxing away from it all

This National Park is by far better than Manuel Antonio. If you like watching various species of man from all over the world....then by all means go to Manuel Antonio. If you like seeing extrodinary amounts of wildlife..

This was an awesome tour. Ziplining through treetops for miles and miles. Doing the thrilling tarzan swing, and all that in tree tops up to 80 meters high. Plain awesome!

San Jose, San Jose & Surrounding Region, Costa Rica
A cheap, afforadable, and last time I was there... safe place to stay in San Jose was the Costa Rica Backpackers. They have a pool, and TV room, and of course kitchens, and hammocks outside. It ran about $8.00 a night.

San Jose, Costa Rica
San Jose is becoming more and more dangerous. If you travel by bus and/or taxi, make sure that you do not have any cellular, camera or other valuable items in sight. Put your money in your socks or anything, bags may be stolen.

I really didn't enjoy this place and the only redeeming thing here was a person I met who helped us out. If you are spending anytime in Costa Rica, just use this place as a transit point. The country side is so much better than this place.

There are cooler places to stay than the Best Western...we stayed at a hotel closer to the action. It had a pool, a bar and a parrot in the courtyard, and we got free vouchers for the casino.
