Travel Tips from people who've been to Central Valley & Highlands
Puerto Viejo is a beautiful place to stay. You can lay in the beach or drink a Ron with Cola at night. Don't forget to visit Maxi's at Manzanillo to have lunch!! Good tip? (+1) If you are just en route to the airport stay in Alajuela on your way out of CR, the city is cleaner, more affordable, and closer to the airport. Good tip? (+1) The park in the center of Turrialba is fantastic on a really hot day. There are so many trees that you are covered in shade and you always get the breeze from the mountain' a perfect place to cool off. Tons of Ticos flock to the park in the afternoon, but it's also where all of the busses drop people off. The benches and central gazebo are always colorful and change every year or so, but the best thing about this park is that every Christmas, a town artist carves a wooden sculpture for the park that gets put on display. As a result, there are wooden statues everywhere and they are always being added, so the selection is never quite the same. the park in general is a great place to simply sit and interact with the Ticos in their everyday life.
