Located about two hours away from San Jose, Jacó is a costal town that's close to a number of national parks and mountains. The beaches are popular for surfing, as there are consistently 3-4 metres of surf. Other activities nearby include golfing, canopy tours, kayaking and scuba diving. An all-inclusive resort and community is starting to develop as well.

There are cooler places to stay than the Best Western...we stayed at a hotel closer to the action. It had a pool, a bar and a parrot in the courtyard, and we got free vouchers for the casino. Good tip? (+1) jaco is a surfer hub in southern costa rica. Much better off going to Hermosa or Estillos Este to catch good waves. Jaco is a party town; lots of alcohol, drugs and hookers. Good tip? (+1) Jaco is an ok option if you just need to get out of San Jose for a couple days, but I wouldn't recommend it for travelers/tourists. Avoid Nathon's Hostel (with the graffiti mural on the front), the landlord is violent! For a centrally-located and good hostel, walk past El Tobacon from Mas x Menos and turn left at that corner. The chicken-headed surfer is your destination. The main beach is much less crowded and a little nicer at the north end. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Jaco
