Sassandra has a nice market and some old colonial houses to see. The true treasures lie north and east of the city. Driving north along the Sassandra rivers you can find locals who take you on a canoe trip to see hippos (best if you follow the dirtroad along the river. Before you reach the big bridge crossing the river, stop in the village and shop around for a guide).
If you follow the dirtroad heading east from Sassandra you can find some amazingly quiet and beautiful beaches.
