Split People & Culture
Split, Dalmatia Region, Croatia Croatia is still on the Kuna; they have not switched to the Euro so Split is a good choice for a seaside vacation. When we visited, our guide told us that a deluxe resort was going to be built in the next few years on prime beachfront property. The people are friendly and they are trying to increase tourism to Croatia ... definitely keep it on your list of possibilities! Good tip? (0) Split, Dalmatia Region, Croatia There is never a need to book a place to stay in the beach towns of Croatia. Just get off of the bus and 800 people will hoard themselves infront of you with flyers for their guest house. Calm everyone down for a moment, select 3-4 people to get details from and then pick whichever sounds best to you. Good tip? (0) Split, Dalmatia Region, Croatia in certain cities and towns, several people are related/know each other, so it is easy to simply ask around to find particular people and/or relatives. the people there are very friendly. (0) Split, Dalmatia Region, Croatia When you are in this gorgeous sea city, try the local seafood specialties - they are to die for. The best is the grilled fish, and in particular rainbow trout. It will melt on your tounge and you will never look at fish the same way again. Good tip? (0) Split, Dalmatia Region, Croatia Don't miss Plitvice National Park and its 16 lakes cascading one into the other through a multitude of waterfalls large and small. Located between Zagreb and Split, the park is easily accessible by bus or car. The Jezero Hotel is the best in the area and not outrageously expensive, but there are also campgrounds and BBs in the nearby town. To avoid the crowds, go early in the morning or in the evening. You can hike around the lakes in about 3 hours with plenty of time to take pictures, which you will want to do at every turn. This is one of my favorite spots on earth! Good tip? (0) Split, Dalmatia Region, Croatia The Split market place by the port is wonderful. Do haggle though, the prices aren`t set and they`ll go for cheaper prices if you got the knack. Good tip? (+1) Split, Dalmatia Region, Croatia For all soccer fans you must try and get to the local soccer team HAJDUK store. They have superb quality soccer gear in their tem colours and wondereful gear for the youngsters - any soccers fans you are shopping for will love this gear. Very popular yet something quite different.
