Travel Tips from people who've been to Olomouc
Olomouc, while smaller than the capital city of Moravia - Brno, had a very important role in the development of the Czech lands. Brno opened to Vienna, and Olomouc opened to Prague. So, it seemed natural that it was viewed as the central city in Moravia for quite some time. The center of the town is a hidden gem. Notice the frescos on the town hall. Originally, they were Christian in theme, but when the communists opted to refresh them, they replaced the Christian motifs with those of "the happy worker." Good tip? (0) There is a special kind of cheese produced in Olomouc. It is called Olomoucke tvaruzky. It has very special taste and smell. If you don't love smelly cheeses, you better perusade someone else to buy it, and then try a bit from someone else plate, before ordering dinner based on that kind of cheese :) Good tip? (0) One of the prettiest and best-kept secrets in Central Europe. Go in early spring... take in the centre, visit some museums, and don't forget to catch a hockey game! Oh yeah, this place has more fountains per capita than probably any place I've been. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Olomouc
