Roseau, West Coast, Dominica
Avoid Roseau during cruises season. Go through the market to discover the local products, wander throughout the streets to admire the typical caribean houses, beautiful colors.Take a walk up to the Botanic garden to see the baobab that fell on a school bus and relived.Eat on the balcony of one of the little restaurant in the center while enjoying the view on the houses and the city life. I loved all this !

We lived on this island for 16 months and can tell you quite a bit about what to see and do. It is absolutely beautiful but don't expect resort accommodations and tourist amenities. Best activities are hiking and snorkeling ... not a relax-on-the-beach-Caribbean-destination. Fort Young hotel is the best hotel on the island. Definitely visit Highride Nature Adventures for horseback riding or ATVing ... tell the Winstons we sent you. Incredible hikes/views include: Boiling Lake, Cabrits, Scott's Head, Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, Indian River, Calibishie and Middleham Falls. Also a great island for whale watching, and quite possibly the most beautiful sunsets in the world. I lived here because my husband was attending Ross University. If you are a family thinking about going to Ross, be sure to do it together. It is a life-changing experience. Get hooked up with Ross Christian Fellowship and the Spouse support group. All of our Dominica experiences are chronicled on our Web site: www.kellyandian.com.

The rain forest is a must see! Narrow winding roads (with no guard rails) will take you to a tropical lush landscape. A slightly scary trip, especially for those fearing heights, but a must see at least once in a lifetime.
