Saint Catherine isn't a popular stop for travelers making their way through Egypt. The few that do usually go to see the Mountain Where Moses First Spoke To God - This, by Sunrise!!!. Otherwise travelers visiting the area tend to stick to more popular destinations such as Sharm el-Sheikh and Dhahab. Know something about Saint Catherine? Travel Tips from people who've been to Saint Catherine
If you're in Sinai, then you should definitely pass by El-Karm Ecolodge. The place is an environment-friendly lodge (has no impact on the environment) that is owned and managed by the Bedouins living in the area (El-Sheikh Gameel, Sheikh here just meaning old man). It is a haven of relaxation, the perfect spot to unplug. Positioned right in the middle of the mountains, completely isolated from the outside world, with no electricity nor mobile phone coverage. The Bedouins here are incredibly friendly and helpful. You can arrange any hiking trips you want with the Bedouins, and they will make sure you have the guide, food, water, camels (if needed) and everything else ready when you need them.
You'll also get to enjoy the company of everyone staying there. The lodge on has 6 rooms, each of which can take up to 5 or 6 people comfortably. So everyone (usually) ends up eating together, gathering at night around the bon-fire and socializing. Great place to meet new and interesting people.
If you plan on hiking, make sure you ask for enough water and bring a quick source of sugar for the energy. Make sure you have sun-block and something light to wear with long sleeves in the morning, especially if summer, or really heavy clothes if you plan on going during winter. As for women, make sure you wear respectful clothes (covering your legs, at least to the knees and preferably long/three quarter sleeves, though T-shirts are fine as well).

Run by Farad! Enjoy the great pleasures of being around the Beduins. Drink mint tea and eat a great meal Muhammed prepares. Rooms are basic but the scenery makes up for that big time! Good tip? (0) Watch for camels as you climb the first part of the mountain. They will crush you against the mountain walls as they pass you by. Happened to me 3 times. Good tip?
