Asmara, meaning "Made them United" is the capital and largest city of Eritrea.  The city was so named as it was born from the union of four villages and their clans.  Considered one of the most agreeable cities in Africa, Asmara has a comfortable climate year-round, with little humidity and temperatures that rarely rise above 30°C.  Eritrea is located at the northwestern Edge of the Great Rift Valley and the Eritrean highlands.  Within the city are numerous modern buildings, including the Orthodox Cathedral, Opera House, the Eritrean National Museum, and the Fiat Tagliero Building.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Asmara
Inhabitants are very polite and respectful, especially the elderly who will greet you in the streets with a "buon giorno" in memory of the colonial past. If you speak Italian you will have the oportunity to learn more from the people.
A visit to the vegetable market is a great experience, smell, colors, you can't do without it.
Rent a bike and cycle around the city is the best, you are closer to the people, can stop where and when you want and if you are not the sporty type: the city is almost flat! Bad point is that you will have to breathe the black smoke coming out of the local buses.
Good tip?
