When in  Lalibela visit the rock-hewn church of Yemrehanna Kristos, 35km from Lalibela. The setting is spectacular, it is basically floating on water on wooden panels in a cave on a cliff. It actually predates the churches in Lalibela and at the back of the church there are hundreds of piled up mummified corpses!

The churches are a must. Be sure to spend a few days there. Take a mule up to the top of the mountain for an amazing view. See both sets of temples. Be sure to visit a few bars for some Eskista.
