Kandavu Island Travel Guide

Off the beaten path. To get there you take a small 12 person prop plane from Nadi or Suva, then a small motor boat to your "resort" destination. While most of the beaches are shell and not the white sandy beaches found elsewhere in Fiji they are low in traffic. The accomodations are mostly basic, generator electricity for a few hours in the evenings. Surfing and scuba are great here as it is co close to the Great Astrolabe Reef. Oh and what to bring. Anywhere in Fiji all you need is a few bathing suits (no one likes wet suits from the day before) 1 long sleeved shirt, 1 pair long pants, 1 short sleeve, 1 pair of shorts and a sulu/sarong. A backpack is all you need whether it's for 4 days or 4 weeks. By packing light you an get to more remote areas and decrease your risk of losing or having items taken. (that pretty much goes for anywhere)

You can reach this little island by plane from Suva, Fiji. The airport is just a shed! Here you meet genuine people, lovely, caring and friendly! Take a trip out to the small Waya Island just outside Kandavu. There you will be amazed by the quality of the host food and the marvel of staying true to yourself and others! One day we had fresh lobster with coconut sauce for dinner. Lobsters caught by the family diving by the reef.  The owner arrange for you to be picked up by boat. This island is a well hidden secret!!! It is VERY cheap!!!
