Lautoka Travel Guide

Honestly, Lautoka is a disappointment.  Seeing the "real" Fiji is quite different than the beautiful pictures seen in brochures.  Riding the bus into town is a fun experience as the buses are rather old and the roads littered with potholes.  But Lautoka, you can find some decent bargains if you look around, and some tasty food, but the city is dirty and ugly.  For a country that relies on tourism, a simple step of adding garbage cans and teaching people how to use them could make this city much nicer.  Don't get roped into telling a local your name or where you're staying, they generally want to sell you something by pretending to be a friendly Fijian.  They'll carve your name into a piece of wood then insist now you need to buy it.  Fortunately we were privvy to this before going and didn't get caught, though pestered many times.

Took the ferry out ou lautoka to the outher eastern islands! Spent one day in Lautoka visiting a music festival.....great place to mengle with locals and experience the local lifestyle....

Good food! Cheap Bus is cheap but takes ages... Car - 40 mins ? from Nadi
