Remember Lapland consists of 3 countries - one of them being Finland. Whilst it is absolutely fantastic to go in winter thick deep in snow it is also absolutely beautiful to go in the summer months. Having said that these are 2 extreme seasons for the LAPLAND area. In winter it is absolutely heaving with tourist. In Summer it is pretty much dead but what a beautiful place to go to - but always bring your sweaters & jackets - even though it is summer. Their winter temperatures are as low as approximately -30 degrees celsius but their summers are about 11 - 15 degrees. Unless you get lucky but do not chance it. As these place are pretty remote as far up North of the globe things tend to be expensive. Levi certainly is pretty expensive and even more so in the winter due to the tourist season. Book months in advance for your skiing or your Santa visits. Most importantly in the summer you will be bitten by millions of mosquitoes and they are the size of juggernauts. I am not kidding. Nightlife in the summer is almost non-existent - so could be quite boring if that is what you are looking for. Taxis can be pretty expensive too. Majority of the locals speak English which is quite impressive. They are very helpful & polite people.
