Many people travel to Tampere to enjoy some great museums, parks, and cultural museums, and stopping over for at least day or two in Tampere is more than worthwhile, as it is the most popular spot for travelers in Finland's Western Finland region. Tampere's most well-known attractions include the Tammerkoski Rapids and SäRkäNniemi. There's a lot more to check out in Tampere, so take some time to explore this Tampere travel guide to find out more about this place.
Some fast advices on how to survive in Tampere and see all the must-sees.
1. Basically the entire center district is worth seeing ;] If you like industrial atmosphere, especially in the city placed between 2 lakes (that lie on different levels) connected with a river with rapids that pass just by all the factories, you need to take a walk through all the possible courtyards on both banks of Tammerkoski river. I suggest seeing and walking around the still working paper factory - Tako and Finlayson factory that houses museums, cinema and some nice pubs.
2. When you're done with the industrial theme and want to rest by the lake (good in summertime and durong winter as well) just go to the Pyynikki site, where small rocky peninsula cuts the Nasijarvi lake or going to the north side of Tampere to use one of public saunas by Pyhajarvi lake.
3. If it comes to eating out, you'll simply find kind of restaurant that suits you best by the main street - Haamenkatu. And if you're a poor student i suggest visiting Rax buffet in the western part of the street, quite close to the main train station, where you can find different pizzas and beverages, which you can eat and drink as much as you want after paying some amount of money.
4. For the long winter evenings, best place to go would be Runo cafe at Ojakatu 3, place with definitely charming european touch and great variety of coffees and tees. Take care of chocolate cake - it's addicting ;)
