France

It is not by chance that France attracts more tourists in a given year than any other country in the world. Paris alone encompasses a staggering number of world-famous monuments, museums, palaces, theaters, libraries, modern architectural wonders and other important historical landmarks. Having served as the cultural center for all of Europe throughout several periods in history, it has seen the birth of countless movements in politics, philosophy and the arts. But beyond Paris, France has countless charming regions; each with their own unique character, food, and local traditions. From the soaring Alps near Chamonix, to the small villages nestled among hilly vineyards in Maconnais, to the stunningly beautiful monastery of Mont Saint-Michel on the northern coast, to the tallest bridge in the world just outside of Millau, France truly is a marvel to visit.

Reims, Champagne-Ardenne, France
The main attraction in Reims is the beautiful flamboyant Gothic cathedral, where numerous French kings were crowned. The cathedral also features stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. But it's also a wonderful little town for wandering in, and the extra bonus is that you are in Champagne. You can get a taste of the very finest Champagnes, either in a glass, or worked into all manner of dishes, like a Champagne-vinaigrette-dressed salad, or chicken braised in Champagne.

Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France
Bordeaux is a very nice town, I lived there for six months.
If you like to go out and like latin music, check out the Calle Ocho in the Rue du Loup. It's quite small and hot, but the atmosphere is amazing! For just grabbing a pint, I really enjoyed the Houses of Parliament, an English pub in the rue du parlement.
The rue Ste-Catherine is Bordeaux' shopping street and is the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe. If you don't find what you're looking for there, you won't find it anywhere.
A very nice calm place to sit and enjoy the surroundings is at the hôtel de ville, and also the place Gambetta.
The city has a lot of public transport (trams busses), but most things are within walking range.

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
Parking is quite restricted and pou are unlikely to get away without having to pay. If you have kids with you, walk past the tourist shops and follow the river. There are some great areas to scramble over the rocks.

There's a side-entrance to the Louvre Museum named Port de Lions. It's located between the Pont du Carrousel and the Pont Royal in the southwing of the museum. If you don't want to wait for hours in line at the pyrmid, this is the way to be in the Louvre in 2 minutes.

Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
Avignon, city of the Popes, is also famous for its bridge. Thus, you need to visit the bridge, the Popes Palace and the walls. If you can, try to make it during the Theatre festival, when the city is alive with activity!

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
Lovely beaches (no braws, like all over Europe) , everyone is crossing streets on red lights, you can do it too, but be aware of the traffic nevertheless. A short train ride to Monaco and Kann, you should visit those places too if you are near the region ...

Colmar, Alsace, France
Colmar is a small town, a bit out of the way for many travelers. But don't let that discourage you. In fact, the small town charm is present from start to finish. You can walk the town courtesy of a walking guide in about two hours. If you are into medieval art, stop by the Unterlinden Museum. There are medieval frescos and alter pieces from centuries ago when art was part and parcel of religion. And if the museum is not enough, pay attention to the two massive churches. There is also Petite Venise, a mini canal and river that runs through part of the city to form an homage to Venice. The Old Customs House and St Matthieu complete the old architectural tour. The fare is typical Alscatian - tarte flambees.

Boulogne-sur-Mer has a very nice youth hostel. The bars aren't that good, but with some booze, you can have a lot of fun at the beach at night.
