Alsace Natural Environment
Strasbourg, Alsace, France Strasbourg is a pittoresque city, the capital of Alsace region. The old city is enouraged by the river Ill, feeder of Rein. I strongly advice you to take a refreshing walk in near her. You may enjoy one of Strasbourg's other pecularities- the swans that, with its easygoing streets, deep waters, magnificent cathedrals and colourfull howses with their gabled roofs, give the city an image of an ancient fairitale. If the weather is not so good, or if you want to learn more on te architecture around the river you may take a boat trip that lasts about an hour and a half. You will se La Petite France with it's towers, bridges and with its lovely white and black timber-framed buildings, the ancient prison that now hosts ENA (Ecole Nationale d'Administration) and a lot of more. The boat (bateau mouche) will take you also to the European Institutions, like the Parliament and The Council of Europe.
A good place to start Strasbourg's sightseeing if you come directly from the Central Station is it's center. The core village is not too big so you can visit most of old town by walking. Near the Station (2 tram stops) is situated place Kleber, one of the biggest squares in the old ville. A lot of boutiques are open to meet your needs. After a 10 minute walk you will reach the Cathedral that is the central attraction in the city. It is bigger than Notre Dame de Paris and has dark gothic style. It's free of entry and you can also climb to have more panoramic view of the city. In this square you may also see one of the most ornate and well preserved medieval civil housing buildings in late Gothic architecture - Kammerzell House, that hosts expensive restaurant. Good tip?
