Rennes is famous to be a student city. Every night and week-end, you can meet student making a "barathon", so going all pubs from a street or from down-town to have a drink. Join them, it's really funny, and a good way to meet new poeple in a foreign city.
There are a lot of got restaurants down town with typical food from brittany. Try it, more a cheap and the food is really good. Never forget to ask for "cidre", typical drink from the region :D

As well as elegant, it's a young and very dynamic city. If you went to Rennes, you will think it's just built, so streets seems to be clean, so there are flowers and trees here and there... Or even better, not far from town centre, there is a big park that get life and nature. Take one day and come walk at park, and admire birds and its song. More important, ... you can, of course, sleep on the weed ^^
