The Renaissance Chateau at Villandry itself is a decent enough attraction to visit - but you're really going to be here for its massive gardens. Greenthumbs and gardeners will be in for a huge treat, and even if you aren't one, the sheer open spaces here will give you some level of privacy and quiet time--something that's at a premium in the popular Loire chateaux.
The gardens themselves are divided into themes and sections - the notable ones are the vegetable gardens (the veggies here are easily some of the largest I have ever seen...I swear they have celery TREES instead of stalks) and the 'love' gardens. There's also the massive hedge gardens and a small hedge maze which I found a bit disappointing.
You have the choice of paying to see the gardens only (around €6) or go for the chateau-garden combo at about €9. I'd spring for the combo ticket if you have time to spare and want to add another chateau to your "visited-list". The Pass Découverte – Ouest Touraine is valid here as well (see my tip on Langeais for pass info).
